NOMINATIONS FOR NEXT PRESIDENCY OF THE IAE

Dear IAE members,

With the Cairo ICE ahead of us, it is time to begin thinking about new leadership for the IAE. According to the IAE statutes:
4.3.5: The Presidium shall be elected for the period between the meetings of the General Assembly by all voting members of the Association…”
We therefore now invite nominations for the offices of President and Secretary General. Candidates for either role must be Professional Members of the IAE. Candidates for either role may be nominated by other IAE members or may nominate themselves.

In the case of candidates for President, however, the nomination must be supported by the names of ten Professional Members of the IAE, and must include a statement of the nominee’s affiliations (e.g., university, museum, professional societies), professional qualifications, and the nominee’s vision of “a four year plan for the activity and development of the Association.”

There are no nominations specifically for the role of Vice President however according to the Statutes (Annex 2. 4): “The nominee for Presidency with the second highest becomes Vice President.”

In order to guide the process, descriptions of each role and a list of credentials which candidates should ideally possess is available in the attached pdf file as well as on the website www.iae-egyptology.org/.

All nominations should be submitted to the General Secretary (secretary@iae-egyptology.org) by 30 June, 2019. Nominations will be posted on the IAE website as they are received. Voting by IAE members will begin in July on the IAE website, and will end on 31 August, 2019. The General Secretary will tally the votes, notify the three candidates selected, and the results will be announced at the first general meeting at the Cairo ICE, at which point the new officers will assume their positions.

The offices of President, Vice President, and Secretary General are a burden as well as a privilege, but they offer a unique opportunity to help shape and guide the general direction of international Egyptology. Please encourage your colleagues to think seriously about running, and please consider doing so yourself.

Best wishes,

Chris Naunton
