PETITION OF THE FACHSCHAFT OF CLASSICS STUDENTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF FRIBOURG, SWITZERLAND

Our university has a long-standing tradition of teaching Egyptology, which now runs the risk of coming to an end by autumn 2018, following recent decisions taken by the professors responsible for the domain of ancient history. This will effectively end the possibility for students of our university to take Egyptology classes.

Because of the high demand for Egyptology – it is counted among the most popular courses within the humanities, taken not only by history students, but also by students of archaeology, theology, philology and many other domains – the Fachschaft immediately looked for an open conversation with the persons involved in and affected by this decision. Finally, all concerned parties came to an agreement to put together a team tasked with the research of a new solution on how to keep Egyptology at the university of Fribourg.

To show your support of this team and their intentions to preserve Egyptology as a subject at our university, we would like to ask you to sign the following petition and share it with your colleagues.
