The purpose of this Privacy Policy is to provide an overview of the personal data processed by the association as well as the rights of the affected members.

  1. Controller
The controller responsible for data processing by the association is the Presidium, represented by the President, reachable by email at president@iae-egyptology.org.
A Data Protection Officer is not legally required and has therefore not been appointed.
  2. Purpose, Scope, and Source of Data Processing
The association processes personal data solely to the extent necessary in connection with the establishment, execution, and termination of the membership relationship, to exercise and fulfill rights and duties arising from the law, or to safeguard its legitimate interests.
The processed data is strictly limited to the following personal details:
    • Title
    • Full Name
    • Address
    • Email address
As a rule, data is collected directly from the member.
  3. Legal Basis for Processing
The legal bases for processing personal data are the statutory permissions under Article 6(1) of the Datenschutz-Grundverordnung (DS-GVO) and, where necessary, the consent of the affected member pursuant to Art. 6(1) DS-GVO.
  4. Data Access and Transfer
Within the association, access to personal data is restricted strictly to the Secretary General and his Assistant who require it to perform the tasks set forth in Section 2.
The association does not intend to transfer personal data to a third country or to an international organization.
  5. Storage Duration and Deletion
Personal data is processed and stored by the association for as long as necessary to fulfill the tasks set out in Section 2. Once the data is no longer required for these purposes, it is routinely erased after statutory retention obligations (e.g., 10-year statutory retention period for financial/tax records) have been met, unless further processing is required to preserve evidence within statutory limitation periods (which may be up to 30 years, but are generally 3 years).
  6. Rights of the Data Subject
As a data subject, the member has the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection, and data portability (Articles 15 through 21 DS-GVO). Where legally applicable, rights of access and erasure are subject to the limitations set forth in Sections 34 and 35 of the German Bundesdatenschutzgesetz (BDSG).
Furthermore, the member has the right to lodge a complaint with a competent data protection supervisory authority (Article 77 DS-GVO in conjunction with Section 19 BDSG).
  7. Right to Withdraw Consent
To the extent processing is based on consent granted by the member, the member has the right to withdraw such consent at any time with effect for the future. The lawfulness of processing based on consent prior to its withdrawal remains unaffected.
  8. Obligation to Provide Data
In connection with membership, the member is required to provide their personal data; otherwise, the membership relationship cannot be entered into or maintained.
